"CACTUS FLY IN"

Casa Grande Arizona

All sorts of planes ... this was a late arrival Amphibian
1950's Twin Beech show plane
The Twin Beech is sure a beautiful aircraft
Quite a few 1930 era Bi-Planes
Now this was interesting. This is a Czech Jet Trainer from the 1950's ... it was the only jet there
For you careful readers of these missives, you will remember our visit in Chandler to the sister of Elsie's friend,Barry Lew. They had the home on the areopark there and Andy mentioned that there was this jet in the aeropark
This is that jet. Given the high cost of fuel, the trip from Chandler would be do-able.
Even the little guys are there. This is actually a manned plane... not for me though. Once in, I'd never get out!!!
Some Air Force Experimental Planes were there
For sale ... any offers? It was about the price of a Mercedes Benz ...
A Troop helicopter that had been converted to civilian use
This is an early 1950's Korean Air force trainer
1930 / 1940 Lockheed 12A
Interesting that they had to add the last line here. I guess they must have had a lot of questions????
Puff the Magic Dragon --- DC3 -- setup as a gun ship. This aircraft flew from Chicago to be at the show. I had a look in the cockpit, and I sure have respect for the guys who flew these!!!
Saw action in Vietnam
There were three water cooled 308 caliber machine guns aboard this craft. The fellow in it said that these guns could put down a sheet of metal that would obliterate anything ... though the first gun does seem to be aiming right at the wing????
Rotary Engines sure look impressive ... and the noise they make ... WOW
Just to prove that the next 3 pictures are really a replica Spitfire
The plane that "saved" Britain in 1940
Beautiful plane
This has to be one of the world's most famous aircraft .. even if it is just a replica
Now, these two aircraft were my favourite. 1950's T 28 Trainers
Both were restored by their pilots ... not a small job, I would think
Attention to detail is incredible
This one was a carrier based aircraft. Notice the hook protruding from the tail
What most of the planes there were, I had no idea, but I sure don't claim to be an aircraft nut.
This is where it gets fun! Many of the planes took off and did a true low level Fly By at top speed. The noise was something!!!
Here comes the Czech Jet ...
It's over us
It's gone! Thank goodness for the power winder on the camera
Even the helicopters did a fly by
Not as impressive as the jet ..
but still ...
Toys for the Boys
No, the Korean Trainer is not on fire ... he put out a smoke stream
Coming around for his fly by
Over head
Gone!
These two T 28's flew in tandem.
They taxied out right in front of us
They did two Fly By's ... one solo and one together
The noise of the 12 cylinder Rotary engines was impressively loud as the screamed by
Right on the Deck at top speed
Everyone stops and just stared as they passed over.
Here they come together...
Good pilots ...
Impressive eh?
Their last solo fly bays
The pilots were talking about fuel consumption ... It made Harvey's total winter fuel bill seem inconsequential!!!
Everyone got their chanced to do a fly by
It was a strange feeling that we were standing not 25 feet away as they began their take off
Even more modern aircraft
Another Experimental Aircraft
No question ... my favourite aircraft of the day ... T 28 C
