This area is full of history. Both Texas Independence battles and Civil War battles are well marked and worth visiting. This particular site is from the Texas War of Independence from Mexico. |
This plaque commemorates the last land engagement of the Civil War May 12, 13th. Thirty four days after General Lee at Appomattox. A sad thought that over 100 men died needlessly as the War was over! |
Ahhh yes .... Texas and an armadillo chooses to cross the road. The lack of interest in our car bearing down on it sure explains the number of dead little guys you see on the road's edge. |
Yes another Great Blue Heron |
Quick ... where is Fess Parker, Davy Crockett This is the Alamo!!! |
The famous last letter sent by Col Travis asking for help |
Time for cutsie shots ... do they look happy??? |
You sure can tell that the temperatures have fallen .... |
These next shots are of the San Antonio River Walk in January. |
Not only can you walk it, there are even boat tours with a guide explaining everything |
The water is from the San Antonio River, but it is recycled. They empty it once a year and do a total bottom cleaning. |
The bridge is on the normal street level |
You wouldn't know that you are in the middle of a large city when you are down on the Walk. It is incredibly quiet and peaceful. |
I love the variety of ways to get down to the Walk |
Hotels and Towers on either side as the walk winds through the City |
The obligatory "I was there" shot. Doesn't Elsie look good???? |
In the Summer this place would be totally different with the trees and flowers in bloom. A four seasons kind of place. |
A Mural on one of the walls. I don't know why she included this picture. |
More of the Walk |
This is an Amphitheater on the Banks of the Walk. They had the Three Tenors here last year. Now, that would have been neat to hear! |
Lots and Lots of Restaurants. Which one would we chose? |
Sitting River side ordering food. Hmmmm ... I could very easily get used to this |
Elsie looks very serious here but really she is laughing inside |
A wandering Maria chi Band came along to serenade. Unfortunately, they had more volume than talent but what the heck ... ambiance eh |
Elsie wanted this picture .. not for me but the size of the Margarita glass beside me. This glass holds 14 shots of liquor and no ... it was NOT the reason we chose to have lunch here!!! |
Las Cruces sunset over the Organ Mountains |
The I 10 follows the major train line from the west coast to the east coast. There sure are a lot of very, very long trains |
Every train car represents a load that a Semi would haul on the highways ... sure better to seem them there ... the I 10 is often horizon to horizon trucks |
Here I am talking to Lou from Osoyoos and their two Pugs, Mr. Bains and Belle. |
Carole trying to get Mr. Bains and Belle to perform for the judges. |
For me, one of the highlights of the show was the local Cops showing off their working dogs. |
These dogs were trained in Europe and only obeyed German and Dutch commands. On Command the dog went after this guy at full throttle. |
They were well trained and obeyed |
But, I tell you, if one of those dogs were after me .... I would not only need immediate medical care but also clean underwear!!! |
Their teeth went into the padding, and they hung on until told to let go. It would be EXTREMELY painful .... |
We haven't told Lord Stanley or Lord Thurston about these dogs ... bad influence you know!!! |
