The Red Ensign ... Canada's "Real" Flag
Elsie and Joe
We both decided to take early retirement 2002 and that travel in North America would be our focus for the first several years.. To that end, we purchased a 37 foot Titanium 5th wheel and a GMC Diesel pickup truck.
Well, that setup lasted only 1 year for various reasons, and we decided to purchase "Harvey" the Class A motor home. Why the name "Harvey", you ask ... well, you see ...
Harvey is a Pooka, which is described --- in the Jimmy Stewart movie of the same name--- as,
"From old Celtic mythology, a "fairy spirit" in animal form, usually a white rabbit and always very large. The pooka appears here and there, now and then, to this one and that one. A benign but mischievous creature very fond of rumpots, crackpots, and...."
Well... that was "then" and this is "now"
Our new RV is made by Newmar RV of Nappanee Indiana. This is one of the four RV Manufacturers who successfully weathered the economic beating of 2008 and who continue to make a quality RV today. You see, we hope to be RV'n for the next 10 years or so, and we thought that Harvey would be a little hard pressed to perform at that level till after the year 2020. A new Rig was needed. What to do?
After very careful research, and much investigation, we finally found the floor plan that Elsie liked. On top of that, the RV had the mechanical toys I wanted. So the decision was made to move to a NewMar Dutch Star 4086. The RV Gods were laughing ... now I had TWO DUTCH STARS in my life. It was destiny!
The colour scheme the manufacturer chose for this rig was TRUFFLE, and the very "best" truffles come from France. Add to that truffles thrive in rain, love to exist under trees, and are most active in winter, what name would fit better than
the "Black Diamond of DogPatch"?
Could there be a better name for our RV????

(by the way ... we still like rumpots and crackpots!!!)
